One goal.
That’s all the Canajoharie girls modified soccer team let in this year on their way to a 12-0 record.
In 12 games, they scored 98 total goals and reached double digits four times. The team of 25 seventh and eight graders beat Galway three times (by a combined score of 23-0). Only St. Johnsville/Oppenheim-Ephratah managed to score on them.
Coach Kathy Bowerman said the team truly played together and supported each other on and off the field.
“I knew they’d be good, but I didn’t realize to what extent,” she said. “They played together as a team and there wasn’t one superstar. All 25 girls contributed to the team’s success."
