Canajoharie High School Principal David E. Barnes announced that Genevieve Trahan has been named a Semifinalist in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship Program. Genevieve, who is studying abroad in Switzerland this fall, will receive a letter of recognition from the school and National Merit Scholarship® Corporation which conducts the program.
Less than one percent of all students taking the 2009 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®) qualified as Semifinalists. To become a Finalist, a Semifinalist must have an outstanding record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the high school principal. and earn SAT scores that confirm the student's performance on the qualifying test. Finalists compete for one of 8,400 National Merit Scholarships based on their skills, accomplishments, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.
"As a high-achieving student, Genevieve has demonstrated the educational excellence we strive for in our school," said Mr. Barnes.
"This is a highly competitive program and we encourage her as pursues a place as a Finalist and a scholarship winner. We hope that this honor is merely the first of many successful steps as she continues her academic journey.
