The fifth grade students at Harry Hoag Elementary School sponsored a hat, mitten, gloves, and scarf drive in December and collected more than six boxes of items. Teacher Kathleen Dopp said the fourth grade class also made scarves, which they donated to the project. The collected items were then given to the flood victims of Schoharie County. The project was part of a school-wide theme in December of charity, cooperation, and courage.
Meanwhile, Mrs. Dopp said the fifth grade also participated in an egg drop activity to introduce them to an invention unit. The children were charged with designing a container or method to allow a raw egg to be dropped from the top of the stairs and not break. "Many children were successful," she said.
Mrs. Dopp plans to enter the designs in the
Capital District Invention
Convention
at the Schenectady Museum.
