The Canajoharie Community
Action
Committee (lead by advisor Donalee Bowerman), S.A.D.D., and local
families delivered an array of goods to flood-affected families in
the Fonda Central School District in late December. The stocking
drive started in late November and the groups collected new
stockings, stocking stuffers, toys, games, blankets, hats, mittens,
and scarves.
The drive included students from every grade in the district.
"Students learned that even though they may be rivals with them for sporting events, they are very close ccommunities and they are there to help each other," said S.A.D.D. advisor Carol Ann Hammons.
Sue Cortright, a parent from Palatine Bridge, helped make the connections for the school districts Mrs. Hammons said. She said Sue was instrumental from the beginning. Mrs. Hammons said she opened what they called the "distribution center" at Scott Hall at the Fonda fairgrounds, which housed supplies for flood victims, and in turn, lead to the stocking drive.
